Every year, come January 1st, I like to do what I call a "Digital Detox", a "Virtual Cleanse" if you will. For 2 whole weeks, I don't use my phone, laptop, TV/DVD or internet. There is no Facebook, no movies, no TV show binge watching, no texting, no phone calls, no google search, or no YouTube. Instead, I spend time with my husband, having an actual conversation. I sit down and read a book, maybe something new, maybe reread an old favorite. I try to do something creative, whether it be painting, writing, knitting/crocheting, scrapbooking or trying something new. I like to get in the kitchen and cook some of our winter favorites from scratch, or making something up as I go just for the fun of it. This was supposed to be the 4th consecutive year. So did I do it... not exactly.
What do they say about the best-laid plans? I spent the first 3 1/2 weeks of January snuggled up in my nice warm bed, watching copious amounts of television and being waited on hand and foot by my incredibly loving, patient and hard working husband. I had the flu. Normally I would beat myself up about it, but I'm choosing to look at the glass as half full. I didn't fail my self-inflicted challenge, I adapted it because of circumstances out of my control (and I didn't want to be bored, lol). So no phone, no internet, no laptop. And that's ok!
Maybe I will attempt it again in the next few months, but if not,
January 1st, 2018 and I have a date.
How is 2017 treating you so far?
